Who is eligible for the Unity Student plan?

This plan is available for students 16 and older enrolled in an accredited educational institution and who can provide consent to the collection and processing of their personal information.

How do I access the Unity Student plan?

Sign up for the plan with the links provided at the top of this page. 

  1. When prompted, create, or log in to, your Unity ID.
  2. Complete the SheerID verification form, providing your academic affiliation details and additional documentation, if necessary.

Once you’re verified by SheerID, sign in to the Unity Student plan to get started.

 

Can I use the Unity Student plan with my existing Unity account?

Yes. Sign up for the Unity Student plan with your Unity ID. Once your eligibility is verified by SheerID, activate your new license via Preferences in the Unity Hub with the license key you will receive by email.

Can I use my Unity Student plan at school?

You can log in to Unity from any computer, including at school, to access resources. Note: If your school uses the Education Grant license, you may not be prompted to log in to the Unity Hub or the Unity Editor. If that’s the case, you can still use your Unity ID to log in to the Asset Store.

What is the difference between the Unity Student plan and the Education Grant license?

The Unity Student plan is free and allows individual students to learn and create with Unity at home or school on their personal devices. The Education Grant license is for institutions that need to install Unity on institutional computers, such as in classrooms or labs.

What is the difference between the Unity Educator plan and the Unity Student plan?

The Unity Educator plan is free and allows individual educators to teach and create with Unity at home or school on their personal devices. The Unity Student plan is free and allows students to learn and create at home or school on their personal devices.

Can I purchase a Unity Student plan for my class?

The Unity Student plan is available for free to eligible students and cannot be purchased. Please refer to the free Education Grant license for your institution’s classroom needs.

I’m having difficulty verifying my student status with SheerID. What should I do?

For help with SheerID verification, please contact SheerID directly.

Can I share my Unity Student plan with friends?

No, but your friends and classmates are welcome to sign up for their own free Unity Student plan.

When does my Unity Student plan expire?

Once you successfully sign up for the Unity Student plan, you will have access to the plan for one year.

How do I renew the Unity Student plan?

The Unity Student plan is valid for one year. When the plan expires, simply return to the Unity Student page and re-verify with SheerID to renew your license.

Where can I check the status of my verification?

In most cases, verification should be instantaneous. If you have been prompted to upload additional documents, you will receive an email from SheerID when your verification is complete. If your verification takes longer than five business days, please contact SheerID directly.

How many Unity IDs can I assign to my verified account?

You can only associate one Unity ID with your Unity Student plan. If you need to change the email address associated with your Unity ID, please follow these instructions.

Did you use two different email addresses for verification purposes?

If so, please check both your email inboxes for confirmation of status as well as separate instructions on how to activate your benefits.

I am not yet 16 and have previously verified for the Unity Student plan. How do I get access with the new SheerID verification?
